About Us

The Psychedelic Ethics Project was founded by Raúl A. Reichard and Jacqueline Tornés, attorneys and law partners at Reichard Tornes, PLLC, as an educational initiative focused on informed consent, patient experience, harm reduction, integration, and ethical standards in emerging psychedelic and dissociative therapies.

Raúl is a lawyer with training in psychedelic-assisted therapies, research, and integration through the California Institute of Integral Studies, where he completed the Certificate in Psychedelic Therapies and Research program. His work includes psychedelic law, policy, and interdisciplinary study relating to ethics, consciousness, trauma, and emerging mental health treatments.

Raúl is also involved in advocacy and policy efforts relating to ibogaine and veteran mental health initiatives in his native Puerto Rico, including work supporting dialogue around expanding safe and ethical access to emerging psychedelic-assisted treatments for veterans and first responders.

This Project is also informed by Raúl’s personal experience with ketamine/esketamine treatment. Like many others, he experienced meaningful benefits from these treatments while also recognizing that altered-state experiences can be difficult to fully understand, describe, or integrate without adequate preparation and support.

Jacqueline Tornés brings a complementary perspective as Raúl’s law partner, wife, and fellow attorney working in psychedelic law, healthcare-adjacent regulatory issues, hospitality, business counseling, and client-centered risk management. Her work has long focused on the human side of professional and commercial environments—how people are protected, informed, served, and supported in real-world settings.

Together, Raúl and Jacqueline created the Psychedelic Ethics Project to encourage thoughtful, evidence-informed dialogue about patient autonomy, informed consent, preparation, harm reduction, integration, and ethical care in the evolving field of psychedelic medicine.

The Project does not advocate for or against any particular treatment, medication, provider, manufacturer, or regulatory approach. Its purpose is educational: to help promote safer, more transparent, and more patient-centered conversations around psychedelic and dissociative therapies.
